The Penn Reading Project, sponsored by the Council of Undergraduate Deans, creates an opportunity for the Class of 2023 and Penn faculty from all disciplines to share a unifying intellectual experience through a single text, film, or painting. This year's selection is Cathy O'Neil's Weapons of Math Destruction.
All first-year students are required to attend an introductory presentation featuring Penn faculty. Later in the afternoon, first-year students will meet with their small groups for a 90-minute session to discuss their essays submitted through Canvas and Weapons of Math Destruction with a faculty discussion leader.
With the kick off of PRP 2019, the Office of New Student Orientation and Academic Initiatives will launch the Year of Data, featuring programs and events intended to engage the entire Penn community in exploring data and the many ways it shapes our lives. Visit the theme year website for more details here.
